Operation School Bell
The Assistance League of Greater Cincinnati is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization whose philosophy is “Making the Connection…Fulfilling the Need” for people in the Greater Cincinnati area.
Donna Christensen serves on its Advisory Council and had the privilege of helping with the Assistance League of Greater Cincinnati’s Operation School Bell program on September 7th. This program provides less fortunate children in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky schools with school uniforms, jackets, socks, underwear, belts, hygiene items and shoes. Children are also given a duffel bag to transport their new personal items.
Approximately 55 children are bused to the organization’s facility at 1057 Meta Drive in Bond Hill each day. ALGC plans to assist approximately 1800 children this school year. This program starts in mid August and ends usually the first week in October. Buses come in the mornings and/or afternoons and all the volunteers happily return knowing they are making children’s lives a little better.
The Operation School Bell program is truly a labor of love by the many volunteers that are at the facility daily greeting the children getting off the bus, helping outfit each child with clothes and shoes and then entertaining them with arts and crafts until the entire bus load of children’s needs are met and then watching the smiling faces of the children getting on the school bus for their return to school.
Over the last 13 years, more than 13,000 children have received new school uniforms through the Operation School Bell program. Many of the organization’s members also tutor students in area schools to improve academic performance.
If you are interested in helping support this worthwhile organization or volunteering in any capacity, please contact the Assistance League of Greater Cincinnati at 513-221-4447, or via email algc@fuse.net. Visit www.assistanceleaguecincinnati.org for more details.
